About the show

Now in its seventeenth year on Broadway, this all-ages musical spectacle tells the untold true story of the Witches of Oz. More…

"Wicked" looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

Avg Score

Absorbing, Clever, Enchanting, Entertaining, Great singing

See it if Great singing great staging great costumes blockbuster hits

Don't see it if Your jaded and don’t like musicals lite stories with great singing and staging

Delightful, Great staging, Great singing, Fluffy

See it if Wicked is a stable on Broadway and as a Broadway Musical, it delivers the goods that is expected of such gigantic show of its caliber.

Don't see it if I always like Wicked's first act, which has all the good songs, whereas the second act feels like a forced wrap-up of the story.

Entertaining, Popular, Fun, Overdone

See it if you are taking your ten year old neice - she will love it and you will enjoy it more seeing it through her eyes

Don't see it if you want to see something new and cutting edge -

Cliched, Fluffy, Excruciating, Overrated, Quirky

See it if You are a NYC visitor/tourist and it's on your bucket list as a must see.

Don't see it if You value good theater, have better ways to spend your time and money

Entertaining, Funny, Overrated

See it if you like the Wizard of Oz, the books Wicked is based on, or big Broadway musicals full of cool staging and spectacles

Don't see it if you don't like the Wicked music/songs (you have probably heard some of them by now, even if you haven't seen the musical)

Overrated, Indulgent, Epic, Great music, Obvious

See it if you enjoy theatrical spectacles, or if you're looking for something safe & family-friendly. It's probably a must for fans of Wizard of Oz.

Don't see it if you consider yourself a highbrow theatergoer b/c the trite & obvious allegories will probably make you roll your eyes a lot.

Disappointing, Much ado about not much, Average, Burns is good

See it if you want to be disappointed. Went into it with big expectations, and it turns to be average in every aspect-songs, choreograpgy, voices...

Don't see it if you expect greatness-it is just ok, but definitely not worth all the stir around it. Dated choreography-painful. Disappointing overall.

Epic, Must see, Resonant, Funny, Absorbing

See it if you love an epic story about love & friendship with resounding music sung by powerful voices.

Don't see it if you're looking for a cheap ticket or don't like whimsical musicals with a large production value.

Clever, Delightful, Entertaining, Great acting, Great staging

See it if I'm spoiled I guess. I saw Idina Menzel as "ELphaba," Kristin Chenoweth as "Glinda" and Joel Grey as "The Wizard." Maybe a film someday??

Don't see it if Don't see it if U don't have a vagina (just kidding). However, if U don't like "The Wizard of Oz"?? Animal-haters stay away or color green?

Enchanting, Great staging, Must see, Epic, Cliched

See it if you love big musical productions with great costumes, songs, the works!

Don't see it if you want a well-behaved theater audience and you can't stand kids.

Entertaining, Must see, Absorbing

See it if You enjoy a fantasy, a fan of the book, or enjoy a catchy score. It's a nice prequel to the Wizard of Oz.

Don't see it if I've seen it a few times over the years. Sadly, it's not the same show it was ten years ago. It gets water downed often.

Enchanting, Epic, Romantic, Resonant, Delightful

See it if Its key audience is young women, but families of all ages can enjoy it. It's a lovely, honest, empowering take on the impact of friendship.

Don't see it if You don't take musicals seriously. You find the values of women overrated. You insist on cynicism. You're unwilling to keep an open-mind.

Enchanting, Great staging, Fantastic

See it if Saw the original cast and it was the most magical experience in the theater. The best score and staging as well.

Don't see it if you don't like Wizard of Oz deconstruction stories

Enchanting, Entertaining, Delightful, Ambitious, Absorbing

See it if you want to be dazzled

Don't see it if you have an aversion to whimsy

Clever, Overrated, Quirky

See it if You like big, touristy musicals and want to be able to say "yeah, of course I've seen that."

Don't see it if You expect it to live up to the hype. Perhaps I saw it too many years after opening, but apart from one or two songs it was unimpressive.

Ambitious, Entertaining, Funny, Big

See it if you have pre-teens & teens who you want to expose to an entertaining message about good v. evil and exterior v. interior beauty .

Don't see it if you don't enjoy showiness and spectacle.

Don't see it if You're allergic to green.

Clever, Delightful, Enchanting, Entertaining, Funny

See it if you want a fun witty smart show

Don't see it if you are scared of witches

Delightful, Enchanting, Epic, Great music

See it if You love big-scale, expensive Broadway musicals, the story of the Wizard of Oz or the music of Stephen Schwartz.

Don't see it if You prefer serious, smaller-scale entertainment with a lot of dramatic backbone.

"In retrospect, Wicked seems an early sign of the cultural clout which is to say buying power of a generation of girls (and now women) whose desire to see, read, and sing along with stories about female empowerment has become a snowballing trend."

"A musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz, that explained how the Wicked Witch of the West got that way, and explored her true relationship to Glinda the Good Witch. A combination of outstanding elements."

"Two of the producers of the musical Wicked bear the name Platt, which (in German) means flat, and one the name Stone, which (in English) means heavy. Why not also one called Long, although it is too much to ask for one called Boring, all of which apply to the show."

"'Wicked's' at its cleverest with the girl stuff; the streamlining of Maguire’s story – reducing a totalitarian allegory to an animal-rights flap – weakens the narrative logic. Catchy Stephen Schwartz songs compensate for a dreary opening number, but it’s the 'Wicked' witches who really make magic."
