A musical adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol in its 18th consecutive year of New York performances.

A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly and cold-hearted man visited on Christmas Eve by four ghosts — his former business partner Marley, and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Each visitation draws Scrooge further into a confrontation with his own history, the lives of those around him, and a vision of what awaits him if nothing changes. The musical adaptation follows the arc of Dickens' original novella, tracing Scrooge's reckoning and the possibility of transformation.

Now in its 18th consecutive year, the production has established itself as a recurring New York holiday engagement. The show is a lively musical retelling of one of English literature's most enduring seasonal stories, drawing on Dickens' characters and narrative to frame a Christmas tradition for returning and first-time audiences alike.

"As welcoming as this production is, it is not for those under 6 or 7. While the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present are ebullient, and Marley borders on silly, the Ghost of Christmas Future completely captures Dickens’ vision. Faceless, swathed in black and gliding eerily, it made even the second and third graders near me cringe. And why not? Without menace, the story loses its full moral impact."
