Well acted, Bit-slow, Clever, Fun, Entertaining

See it if Clever mash of the classic stories. Fun, well written & acted.

Don't see it if Sometimes it lolls. At 1hr 45Min (including intermission) it should have been a one act.

Slow, Fluffy, Cute

See it if You enjoy holiday shows, A Christmas Carol, mysteries and Sherlock Holmes. This is a mashup of all of those things.

Don't see it if I think your enjoyment will be heightened if you are a fan of Xmas Carol/Sherlock & know the characters. Read more

Well done charming christmas play.

See it if You want a little holiday spirit.

Don't see it if You don’t want a little holiday treat.

Great ensemble cast in brilliant christmas mash-up

See it if Our Holmes and Scrooge are great. The rest of the cast is peerless at changing voices and costumes to play a panoply of oddball characters

Don't see it if you're not in the holiday spirit. A truly original Dickens take-off. Funny and delightful

Entertaining, Great acting, Too long, Clever, Quirky

See it if Clever, well staged mash-up of 2 classics; actors in multiple roles give their all; Christmas theme appropriate for this time of year.

Don't see it if not familiar with the characters in each story; have trouble with British accents; a little slow.

Clever, Funny, Delightful, Entertaining

See it if you want a fun evening of holiday cheer that is quite clever and very well performed. A very good mish mash of 2 classic genres.

Don't see it if you don't like to have fun in the theater, or you're a purist of Sherlock Holmes tales, this will probably not be for you. Read more

Time Out New York
November 22nd, 2021

"3/5 Stars...Shanahan's wreathing of these icons is fun...Clad in Linda Cho's handsome period costumes, against scenic designer Anna Louizos' simple Victorian London backdrop, the six actors give spirited performances and even sing a few carols...Yet 'A Sherlock Carol' never really transcends its inspirations. Too often, it feels oddly perfunctory and distant."

New York Stage Review
November 22nd, 2021

"4 stars! The elegant Anna Louizos set, with its false proscenium and myriad set-pieces carried on and carted away by the cast, is perfect. Linda Cho’s seemingly endless array of quickly changed costumes is perfect. Charles G. Lapointe’s hair and wig designs are perfect. John Gromada’s sound and original music are perfect. As for the cast members: perfect...Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is a lifelong subscription to A Sherlock Carol."

Part of the fun of A Sherlock Carol is that it is an entirely new Christmas stage offering taken from well-known stories, as well as seeing four of the actors continually returning in unexpected roles. With its array of beautifully sung Christmas carols, A Sherlock Carol is a new and worthy addition to the holiday season, a must for lovers of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge.
