A housewife in 1969 questions her life as cultural change reshapes her world.
Set in the summer of 1969, the musical follows Pearl Kantrowitz, a Brooklyn housewife who travels to a Catskills bungalow colony for her family’s annual retreat. As the wider world undergoes rapid cultural and social change—from the space race to the rise of countercultural movements—Pearl encounters new ideas and experiences that challenge her sense of identity and routine. An unexpected connection and proximity to a nearby music festival draw her further into a shifting landscape of personal and societal transformation.
Adapted from the film by Pamela Gray, with direction by Sheryl Kaller, the production features music and lyrics by AnnMarie Milazzo with additional lyrics by Gray. The score combines 1960s musical influences with contemporary elements to reflect the period and Pearl’s evolving perspective.
