Indie Shakespeare company Match: Lit presents one of William Shakespeare's best-loved comedies. More…
From the show:
This winter, experience one of Shakespeare's best-loved high comedies in our signature style: an intimate ensemble of eleven actors, now with live music to enhance Shakespeare’s written word. As You Like It takes us deep into Rosalind's journey as she explores the stark contrast between the rigid, sterile world of the Court and the free, discoverable nature of the Forest of Arden.
See it if you want you Shakespeare done in the spirit of the 16th societal challenges Shakespeare's writing embraces.
Don't see it if you need a 19th/20th century version suitable to be viewed by Queen Victoria
See it if You love Shakespeare's comedies, particularly when performed by a troupe of talented young people.
Don't see it if You don't like gender bending of old plays.
See it if you appreciate the sarcastic humor in Shakespeare's comedies
Don't see it if you don't like actors playing multiple/cross-gender roles or minimal sets/lighting.
See it if You’d like this gender-bent play more confusing & gender-bent than original & love Shakespeare in any shape or form. Female Orlando.
Don't see it if you can’t climb 4 flights or sit through nearly 3 hours of Shakespeare.
See it if Gender bending lead; low budget production at a studio space; talented young actors know bard’s words well; musicians light up gloomy space
Don't see it if Odor (due to no budget for costume laundry & small space I guess); 4 floor stairs to climb; bare set and tiring seats; long queue for WC
See it if You're a Shakespeare fan who is comfortable listening to that manner of speaking; ambitious acting; intimate venue.
Don't see it if You don't understand the Shakespearean way of speaking (which I didn't); gave up midway through and left. Uncomfortable bridge chairs.
See it if You love a new spin on one of Shakespeare’s light plays. They are creative with staging and set design.
Don't see it if You’re looking for heavy costuming and staging for a classic play.
See it if you enjoy being surprised by Shakespeare. This production interprets Shakespeare's text in a way you've never heard before.
Don't see it if you want a traditional As You Like It.
See it if It was great seeing Shakespeare spoken naturally by very talented actors clearly passionate about their material.
Don't see it if 4th floor walk up and very long. A little too long in my opinion, at over 2.5 hours. Shoulda been shaved a little.
See it if You enjoy honest, heartfelt mountings of Shakespeare’s works with some lovely deviant casting and storytelling decisions.
Don't see it if You’re married to traditional casting choices for the show, or you don’t enjoy long pieces of theatre.
See it if new interpretations of Shakespeare, presented by talented and enthusiastic actors/singers/musicians, appeal to you.
Don't see it if getting to a fourth floor walkup is difficult, you don't like long plays, or are not open to LGBTQ themes.
See it if You appreciate fun and low-key Shakespeare productions, good but spare.
Don't see it if You only like fully staged productions of Shakespeare with full costumes and sets, or expect traditionally trained Shakespearean actors.
See it if A witty, gender-aware, well-acted charming production that conveys the contrast between the court and the Forest of Arden. Great fun!
Don't see it if Up four long flights of stairs; building seemed to be unheated. Might be uncomfortable for some.
See it if you'd like a sweet and romantic escape from the current state of our world. A multi talented ensemble takes you with them on the journey!
Don't see it if You're not up for some untraditional gender bending of roles that will open your mind and heart to love in all ways.
See it if You are excited about the exploration of queer love in Shakespeare, appreciate diverse casting, want to be brought to laughter and tears.
Don't see it if You want a boring, all-white production that does nothing new or exciting
See it if bare bones Shakespeare -- a good thing; intriguing take on gender fluidity; well-spoken verse; ensemble seems to enjoy their work
Don't see it if Access Theater is a 4th floor walk-up -- long flights of stairs; if you choose to attend, call in advance to use elevator
See it if You enjoy any brilliant and innovative narratives, you find yourself absorbed by gorgeous ranges of acting, & you love being engaged.
Don't see it if You have poor taste, you are married to traditional interpretations, or you lack a sense of humor.
