Marina Abramović leads a large-scale, immersive performance blending dance, song, ritual, and myth.
Marina Abramović’s newest large-scale performance work explores desire, spirituality, cultural tradition, and humanity’s connection to the natural world. Drawing from Balkan mythologies and sacred rituals, the performance unfolds across thirteen scenes that examine eroticism as a potent spiritual force rather than a provocation. Audiences move freely through the Wade Thompson Drill Hall, encountering shifting environments of dance, music, and intimate ritual.
This North American premiere marks Abramović’s return to the Armory following prior projects The Life and Death of Marina Abramović (2013) and Goldberg (2015). The new commission features a cast of nearly 50 performers—including dancers, singers, and musicians—and reflects the artist’s continued investigation into folklore, ancestry, and the body as both medium and subject.
Across its durational structure, the work blends movement, song, and ceremonial gesture to reinterpret ancient narratives for a contemporary context. Through these interwoven scenes, Abramović constructs a performance rooted in tradition while examining the body as a site of power, memory, and transformation.
