"Opel...brings her estimable talents to the title role. The versatile ensemble cast energetically populates Bobby’s orbit of friends, dates, and gynecologists. Brody’s music and lyrics are pleasant, if a little generic...But it’s the darkest, non-musical moments that are most compelling...Moments of vulnerability, though, are too often hastily glossed over in favor of yet another tune...I suspect that Bobby’s genuinely interesting life story could be more richly rendered in another medium."

“There are so many reasons why you will enjoy this show. It tells a heartfelt story with all the pizzazz that you love in a musical...A vibrant score that is wonderfully performed...Each and every song is well placed to develop the story...'Curvy Widow' does a great job of addressing the sensitive subject of dating and sexual relations for a mature woman after the loss of her mate. It is a meaningful, yet wholly entertaining production that you will long remember.”

"I am surrounded by people laughing their heads off while I sit and wonder why...A lively mainly autobiographical musical comedy...All the participants are kept actively engaged, if not necessarily engaging...The very talented Opel portrays a woman with boundless vim and vigor...Brody's lilting tunes range from clever to crass...This is a show that doesn't pretend to be more than a shallow diversion for those who fantasize about the sexual possibilities and proclivities of middle-aged women."

"A 90-minute musical bore...The result is a muddy and uneven script, paired with trite, forgettable songs that makes for a show that can never manage to shed any fresh light on its subject...Opel comports herself well in a character that is asked to carry the entire show...But Goldman and Brody do not give Opel much to work with...This is a show dedicated almost entirely to the gag of Bobby's dating gaffes, but as that grows quickly thin, we are not left with much to which we might connect."

"A humorous musical...Brody’s numbers easily move the story with humor and emotion through Bobby’s creation of her new life...Opel inhabits Bobby, bringing her to full, emotionally messy life as though the part was written specifically for her...'Curvy Widow,' with its solid story, firm direction, and excellent performances—especially that of lead Nancy Opel—makes for an entertaining evening in the theatre. It is upbeat, it is hopeful, and it is funny."

"A mildly diverting albeit poignant production that manages to be both entertaining and enlightening...Director Flynn keeps the action moving for a brisk 90 minutes...Opel is terrific as Bobby...The seven-member cast works as a tight ensemble...I confess that I wasn’t blown away by 'Curvy Widow' at first, but in retrospect I have concluded that such life-changing events as middle-aged widowhood...don’t really need a 76-trombone band and lots of jokes."

"The death of a spouse is a rather odd choice of subject matter for a musical comedy, but 'Curvy Widow' pulls off the trick in fine style...A very funny musical. The songs help broach the dark subject matter that inspired the play...Nancy Opel is terrific. The Tony-nominated actress has an amazing voice and is able to move effortless between sad moments and hilarious antics...It’s part tear-jerker, but mostly a very funny comedy...Highly recommended!"
