After a five-year absence, an all-new edition of Gerard Alessandrini’s musical spoof of all things theatre returns to New York, More…
From the show:
It’s been five long years since Forbidden Broadway last graced the New York stage. But Tony Award-winning parodist Gerard Alessandrini is back, with a HILARIOUS, ALL NEW, UP-TO-THE-MINUTE EDITION - Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation!
The new show comically and musically eviscerates Hadestown, Moulin Rouge, Tootsie, Beetlejuice, the very dark Oklahoma, The Ferryman, the Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof, The Cher Show, Dear Evan Hansen, What the Constitution Means to Me, and the new generation of Broadway stars including Ben Platt, Santino Fontana, Billy Porter, Alex Brightman and exciting returns by Bette Midler, Andre de Shields, Bernadette Peters, Karen Olivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many surprises. Don’t miss it-- Five years is a long time to wait!
See it if you love Bdway musicals. Fun for everyone, esply insiders. Clever lyrics, excellent piano, wonderful voices, good choreog = a great escape.
Don't see it if you need to hear every word (some lyrics lost). Or want plot (opening premise is weak). Or don't know any shows (parody riffs on originals).
See it if You can be satisfied by sheer effort. The cast works very hard and most are quite talented. They cover a large selection of Broadway shows.
Don't see it if You’re expecting it to be funny or fresh. It’s neither. There was no real “parody” here but rather a snide retelling.
See it if Parodies that hit home. Witty well-performed songs & impressions of Broadway actors. e.g. "WOKE-lahoma...Oh what a miserable morning"
Don't see it if You don't like parodies. You won't enjoy it as much if you haven't seen many Broadway musicals recently. Cast of 5 plus a pianist.
See it if you want to see a clever collection of (mostly) spot-on parodies of Bway shows & stars performed by a tireless, talented, versatile company.
Don't see it if u haven't seen a Bway musical in the last 5 yrs; u expect the viciousness of previous versions [This one's more a celebration than a roast.]
See it if you enjoy the lighter side of Broadway musicals and the actors in them-lots of laughs here by a talented cast of 5 bringing constant action.
Don't see it if you take your Broadway musicals and stars all seriously - here, new words to familiar tunes skewer the plots and actors.
See it if fan of previous editions, curious about how it tackles more recent shows, enjoy great satire of shows & personalities, love Broadway
Don't see it if satire is not your thing, you haven't enjoyed Broadway musicals for years, you take Broadway shows too seriously, don't like laughting
See it if you love B'way. Everything music, lyrics & costumes is rich w/ implied & explicit commentary. Even if you haven't seen it all, it'll be fun!
Don't see it if you dislike the current theatrical season. Actually a they don't like everything either.
See it if Game players deride recent musical Broadway hits (current and closed) in new tweaked version (drinks and +1child) of decades-long franchise.
Don't see it if A dearth of qualifying lampoon-worthy candidates force the pond to expand to include cable and film, diluting the brand to lesser effect.
Also The vote's out on the new format, but this has been very much missed.
See it if You enjoy satire. You're familiar with both classic & current Broadway shows. You want a talented cast performing in an intimate cabaret.
Don't see it if You don't like venues w/drink minimums. You dislike parody. You want equally good skits: some are gr8, others are meh & Captain Obvious.
See it if you’re a theatre junky looking for a laugh.
Don't see it if you don’t go to the theatre often. You won’t understand the references. This also gets to be pretty inside-baseball at times.
See it if you liked the original Forbidden Broadway shows. This one is worthy of the others. Very funny and well sung.
Don't see it if you don't like criticism of Broadway shows or like a bigger stage. The Triad is a small venue but stage is well used.
See it if Parody of Moulin Rouge with lyrics set to Madonna is hilarious. Loved the Frozen and Woke-lahoma parodies. Young kid is great as Evan Hansen
Don't see it if You don't like parodies or sarcasm. Wished a few skits had more singing.
See it if You know/love yr theater history. This parodies 2019 shows but also movies and theater-related TV. Next Gen not as barbed as years past.
Don't see it if Don't want a kid as part of cast of 5- he's talented but it's weird. If you don't know the music & Bdwy scene, much will go over your head.
See it if You know/have seen a lot of the current of Broadway Shows. You don't take anything to seriously. The performers are all incredibly talented
Don't see it if There are some hits and misses. Some songs are funny and great, others fall a little flat. Go with the flow and you'll have fun.
See it if you love musical theatre, Bway, and great performances.I have missed Forbidden Bway and am THRILLED it is back.Their take on OK is perfect
Don't see it if you don't like theatre, never see musicals and are dead inside.
See it if I'd seen most of the shows treated, but my friend saw only one. He loved it, anyway. The talent is great. Pianist Fred Barton is an expert
Don't see it if It helps if you've seen the shows, but the fun is apparent even if you haven't. Woke-lahoma was fun. At 13, Joshua Turchin is on the rise!
See it if It's nearly 40 years. We all know what FB is about - a fun takedown of current Broadway shows. If you're a Broadway goer, you'll like it.
Don't see it if If you rarely go to Broadway, you probably won't get the jokes and won't like this.
See it if you are a frequent theater-goer & like parodies; hard working cast; some clever bits.
Don't see it if expecting the same incisive material that previous incarnations have shown.
See it if You have seen many, if not all, of the Broadway shows being parodied; like satirical revues, want to escape the headlines
Don't see it if you're a Broadway purist & don't want a couple of cable performance parodies (i.e. Judy & Fosse/Verdn*), want all parodies to be good
See it if You want a fun good time. Some of the bits very clever. You will laugh and smile.
Don't see it if You have not seen a lot of broadway shows. This show makes fun of and twists recent broadway shows. A few sketches fall flat; cast uneven.
See it if you want a fun evening roasting some of Broadway's best shows. You won't stop laughing!
Don't see it if you don't like anyone spoofing your favorite show. No one is immune in this hilarious romp.
