After a five-year absence, an all-new edition of Gerard Alessandrini’s musical spoof of all things theatre returns to New York for a 10-week limited engagement. Note: there is a 2 drink minimum for this venue. More…
From the show:
It’s been five long years since Forbidden Broadway last graced the New York stage. But Tony Award-winning parodist Gerard Alessandrini is back, with a HILARIOUS, ALL NEW, UP-TO-THE-MINUTE EDITION - Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation!
The new show comically and musically eviscerates Hadestown, Moulin Rouge, Tootsie, Beetlejuice, the very dark Oklahoma, The Ferryman, the Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof, The Cher Show, Dear Evan Hansen, What the Constitution Means to Me, and the new generation of Broadway stars including Ben Platt, Santino Fontana, Billy Porter, Alex Brightman and exciting returns by Bette Midler, Andre de Shields, Bernadette Peters, Karen Olivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many surprises. Don’t miss it-- Five years is a long time to wait!
See it if you want to see a clever collection of (mostly) spot-on parodies of Bway shows & stars performed by a tireless, talented, versatile company.
Don't see it if u haven't seen a Bway musical in the last 5 yrs; u expect the viciousness of previous versions [This one's more a celebration than a roast.]
See it if fan of previous editions, curious about how it tackles more recent shows, enjoy great satire of shows & personalities, love Broadway
Don't see it if satire is not your thing, you haven't enjoyed Broadway musicals for years, you take Broadway shows too seriously, don't like laughting
See it if You enjoy satire. You're familiar with both classic & current Broadway shows. You want a talented cast performing in an intimate cabaret.
Don't see it if You don't like venues w/drink minimums. You dislike parody. You want equally good skits: some are gr8, others are meh & Captain Obvious.
See it if you enjoy the lighter side of Broadway musicals and the actors in them-lots of laughs here by a talented cast of 5 bringing constant action.
Don't see it if you take your Broadway musicals and stars all seriously - here, new words to familiar tunes skewer the plots and actors.
See it if Game players deride recent musical Broadway hits (current and closed) in new tweaked version (drinks and +1child) of decades-long franchise.
Don't see it if A dearth of qualifying lampoon-worthy candidates force the pond to expand to include cable and film, diluting the brand to lesser effect.
Also The vote's out on the new format, but this has been very much missed.
See it if you liked the original Forbidden Broadway shows. This one is worthy of the others. Very funny and well sung.
Don't see it if you don't like criticism of Broadway shows or like a bigger stage. The Triad is a small venue but stage is well used.
See it if You know/love yr theater history. This parodies 2019 shows but also movies and theater-related TV. Next Gen not as barbed as years past.
Don't see it if Don't want a kid as part of cast of 5- he's talented but it's weird. If you don't know the music & Bdwy scene, much will go over your head.
See it if you love musical theatre, Bway, and great performances.I have missed Forbidden Bway and am THRILLED it is back.Their take on OK is perfect
Don't see it if you don't like theatre, never see musicals and are dead inside.
See it if you are a frequent theater-goer & like parodies; hard working cast; some clever bits.
Don't see it if expecting the same incisive material that previous incarnations have shown.
See it if you enjoy satirical writing and like to see things get spoofed when they deserve it. Cast was talented, music great, and the rest great fun.
Don't see it if If you already hate the Triad, don't appreciate satire, or are not a Broadway regular. Much of this is lost unless you know the shows.
See it if You want to see a great parity of Broadway's current offerings performed by an outstanding cast that has it spot on with clever lyrics.
Don't see it if you are not concerned or knowledgeable about the current shows playing in Broadway.
See it if you enjoy Broadway spoofery with a talented cast
Don't see it if you're not into comedy or don't think you'll pick up on some deep cut Broadway jokes
See it if you see a lot of theater and enjoy gentle satire. Some skits work better than others. Enjoyable enough but I hoped for more.
Don't see it if you haven't seen most current shows. This is better appreciated by serious theater fans. Spamilton was much more clever.
See it if you are a huge broadway fan and know all the shows currently on broadway. See their renditions of Oklahoma, Hades town, Moulin Rouge, etc.
Don't see it if this is a parody of the current Broadway shows, so if not a fan, or do not most of the current running shows, you may not enjoy this as much
See it if You have seen and liked any of the previous incarnations, you have seen many Broadway shows and want to see them skewered.
Don't see it if You have not seen many shows. You will not get the jokes or you only want to see serious drama.
See it if you enjoy parodies of musicals on Broadway.
Don't see it if you don't enjoy parodies or spoof, especially if you haven't seen many musicals on Broadway.
See it if You love theater and are very in-the-know about the last two seasons of Broadway shows.
Don't see it if You don’t like to be crowded into small tables in a cabaret space that is intimate in the bad way.
See it if You like the franchise in general. Aline Mayagoitia was a special standout. You’ve seen all the shows currently running.
Don't see it if You prefer the nastier predecessors - this outing was a bit tame. You’re not up to date on broadway- the funniest bits really need reference
See it if you've seen a lot of bway (or you'll miss the references). Mr Alessandrini's clever takes on so much of bway (& beyond) is always a delight!
Don't see it if you've hardly seen anything...the references are the current & recent seasons often done via way way past seasons' songs.
See it if You want to see the best (or most overrated) shows of the Broadway season spoofed. It’s a guaranteed good time for Broadway lovers.
Don't see it if You have no tolerance for uneven comedy. Several numbers are forgettable. You resent two drink minimums.
See it if you enjoy parody and keep up to date with theatre.Cast is, as always, excellent.
Don't see it if you're not well versed in theatre and get frustrated if you don't get the jokes.
