Based on Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit, High Spirits is a musical comedy that follows Charles and Ruth, a married couple whose lives are thrown into chaos when eccentric medium Madame Arcati conducts a séance that accidentally summons the ghost of Charles’s first wife, Elvira. What begins as an evening of playful spiritualism quickly unravels into a supernatural farce, as Charles finds himself torn between two wives—one living and one decidedly not.

This new production is directed by Jessica Stone (Kimberly Akimbo) and stars real-life husband and wife Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) and Steven Pasquale (The Bridges of Madison County) as Ruth and Charles. Together they bring Coward’s razor-sharp wit and the show’s larger-than-life characters to the stage.

With a brassy, whimsical score by Hugh Martin (Meet Me in St. Louis) and Timothy Gray (Love from Judy), High Spirits earned eight Tony Award nominations during its original 1964 Broadway run. Rarely revived in New York, the musical returns with Coward’s timeless humor and a spirited dose of haunted mischief.
