A Washington Heights community faces change in Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony winning musical.
Set over three summer days in Washington Heights, the musical follows Usnavi, a bodega owner navigating questions of identity, ambition, and home alongside his close knit neighborhood community. As residents confront rising costs, shifting opportunities, and personal dreams, their stories unfold through a score blending hip hop, salsa, merengue, and Broadway traditions.
The musical features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes. Miranda later expanded his Broadway profile with Hamilton, while Hudes received the Pulitzer Prize for Water by the Spoonful. This concert staging is directed by David Mendizábal.
Originally opening on Broadway in 2008, In the Heights won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
