A trans cabaret memoir blending original songs, ’90s pop, and Irish cultural commentary.
Dublin-born performer Pea Dinneen presents a solo musical cabaret centered on her journey of self-discovery, identity, and finding her voice. Through a coming-of-age narrative, she reflects on her life in Ireland while weaving together personal stories, humor, original songs, and ’90s pop music. The work explores themes of gender identity, visibility, and contemporary Irish society through a blend of storytelling and live performance.
The production is written and performed by Pea Dinneen and directed by John King. Musical direction, arrangements, and original music are by Paul James Prior. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Ellen Kirk, lighting designer John Gunning, and movement director Niamh McGowan. The production was presented by Pea Dinneen and Once Off Productions and was awarded Best Production at the 2025 Dublin Fringe Festival.
Combining cabaret performance, autobiographical storytelling, and live music, the piece follows Dinneen’s account of raising her voice within a society she depicts as resistant to hearing it. The production incorporates original material alongside familiar pop influences, framing personal experiences within broader discussions of contemporary Irish culture and trans identity.
