See it if you like Jane Austen, romance, good songs, and good theater.

See it if You love your bluegrass. This Edinburgh Fringe winner, gender bender, is delightful even if you don’t know Mr. Darcy from Mr. Rogers.

Don't see it if Banjos and ‘stop the steal’ jokes aren’t your thing. Also don’t see if you’re an Austen purist Read more

Great staging, Ambitious, Great singing, Entertaining, Clever

See it if want to see a folk song musical, where most of the actors bring and use musical instruments on the stage. The script is very fun.

Don't see it if you don't like folk (country) type music - or if you want a play with little plot but a bunch of large scale sets and dance numbers Read more

“Very simply, it is the music that makes a visit to ‘Prejudice and Pride’ worthwhile...Taken for what it is, a lot of tuneful music held together with a shambly plot and a ton of heart, and you will find there is a lot to like about ‘Prejudice and Pride.’”

“...poor Jane Austen has been ravaged and rifled through so many times by so many writers in search of better material than they themselves can think up...The present specimen is called ‘Prejudice and Pride,’ which gives you an idea where they’re heading even before the very first twang.”

"That KC-centric cast, all making their Off-Broadway debut, are nonetheless a pleasing bunch. What Wright lacks in finding Bennett’s subtleties, he makes up for with his fine singing and strumming."

Despite every attempt to upend gender norms, this fun folk musical concludes with a romantic happily ever after. Watching poor blushing men await marriage proposals from rich, fiercely independent women who mistreat them was uncomfortable. I wanted the gender flip to feel normal; I wanted our world to be progressive enough that seeing this kind of gender reversal would not be impactful. The show left me with persistent questions about how to enact meaningful change, or even define it.
