Safe House is set in the days before a United States presidential election, in the basement of a Pennsylvania suburban home that a father named Rock has methodically converted into a doomsday bunker. Convinced that a second American civil war is approaching and secretly dying of a hereditary neurodegenerative disease, Rock has narrowed his world to the task of protecting his family from what he believes is coming. When his estranged teenage daughter returns home pregnant, the tensions held in place by the household's routines begin to fracture.

The play is a family drama that uses the bunker and the election as twin pressure systems bearing down on a household already strained by absence, illness, and unspoken history. As Rock's obsession with safety intensifies, the line between protection and control becomes the central question the family is forced to confront.
