Set in a high school cafeteria in Austin, Texas, the play follows four ninth-grade boys—Jeffrey, Andrew, Chris, and Jordan—who gather at lunchtime to make “spread,” also known as a Texas prison brick, from shared snacks and hot water. As they cook, the boys joke, argue, posture, and test one another, revealing the shifting dynamics of friendship at the edge of adolescence. The lunchtime ritual becomes a frame for examining vulnerability, bravado, and the small negotiations that define early teenage relationships.

The world premiere is written by Jesús I. Valles, winner of the 2025 Bruntwood Prize International Award, and directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo.
