A solo actor portrays 14 characters, using letters and interviews to depict the human impact of war.
This solo work, written and performed by Douglas Taurel, features the portrayal of 14 different characters—men, women, and children—whose lives have been profoundly affected by various wars, spanning from the American Revolution to recent conflicts.
The production exposes the emotional and physical scars of war with both darkness and humor, transporting the audience through various wartime eras, including Vietnam and Valley Forge. The narratives are drawn from exhaustive research, actual letters from soldiers, and verbatim language from countless veteran interviews. The stories include a father dealing with his veteran son's suicide, a soldier's limb loss, a wife and son coping with deployment, a grieving mother, and a female combat veteran sharing her struggles with PTSD.
The play is presented as a profoundly human story, non-political in its focus, and created to honor veterans and their families.
