Nine-year-old Philomena adores building miniature cities with her older sister, Helen. However, when Helen gets engaged, their shared world is thrown into question, and Philomena dreads the idea of a strange new stepbrother. To cope, she creates a new realm from books, toys, and found objects, which magically come to life when she sleeps.
