About the Show

Mother-daughter tensions explored in Phanésia Pharel's intimate two-hander.

"The Waterfall" centers on Haitian-American Bean, who returns home to assist her mother after a hospitalization. Confronted with her mother's expectations regarding marriage, motherhood, and her health, Bean grapples with questions about her identity and desires. The play examines the generational divides surrounding family, womanhood, and the American Dream.

Written by Phanésia Pharel, a Haitian-American playwright with works including "Dead Girl’s Quinceñera" and "Black Girl Joy," the play is directed by Obie Award winner Taylor Reynolds, known for "Primary Trust" and "Fat Ham."

This production is a co-production between WP Theater and Thrown Stone, underwritten by Dee Dee Colabella.
