Emma Rice's beloved retelling of the Cornish legend of Tristan and Yseult returns after years of world touring.
Tristan & Yseult retells the Cornish legend of two lovers caught between duty and desire. When King Mark of Cornwall sends his knight Tristan to bring back Yseult, his Irish bride-to-be, the two fall irrevocably in love, setting off a chain of events that moves between the tragic and the heroic. Emma Rice's production reimagines the medieval story through an irreverent theatrical lens, framing the Cornish court within a setting called the Club of the Unloved and drawing on live music, low-fi aerial acrobatics, and dark humor to carry the narrative.
Created and directed by Emma Rice, the production features live music combining new and found material, with echoes of Wagner woven through the score. A landmark work with over two decades of international touring behind it, Tristan & Yseult returns to St. Ann's Warehouse following years of world touring, presented by Rice and her company in what has become one of contemporary British theatre's most celebrated and widely seen productions.
