A new play about a Dominican family adjusting to new life in a changing American in 2002.

The Torres family of the Bronx are coming together at Juana’s apartment to mark the christening of her grandson, Christopher. It’s November 2002 and a year after 9/11, this funny, close-knit Dominican family is navigating a new reality that challenges their sense of security— is America waging war in Iraq? When it’s time to celebrate, the Torres’ still meet the moment – there’s way too much food, adults lecture their kids a little, cousins gossip and fight – and yet the comforts of home fall short. Something is up.

A World Premiere, Julissa Contreras’ new play contains bilingual dialogue woven in to show the beauty, humor, and uncertainty of a life in this time, place, and community.
