See it if You enjoy REALLY good magic tricks (especially the newspaper one). What's in the envelope you grab during intermission will surprise you

Don't see it if If you don't like magic shows, even fast-paced ones such as this (that runs 1 hour 53 minutes including intermission).

See it if you enjoy magic mixed with great storytelling and philosophy. Helder is a terrific performer--charming, funny, and engaging.

Don't see it if you don't enjoy magic. (Then again, I'm generally not a fan of magic, but I found myself captivated.) Read more

See it if You want to be entertained by a truly crafty card magician.

Don't see it if You are going to overthink it, or are expecting other types of magic. This guy is a card magician, and maybe a psychic, lol. Read more

See it if You're huge fan of magic, excellent storytelling and beautiful staging. The show is smart, mind-blowing, and unique. I adored it.

Don't see it if You are not a fan of magic, or if you need to bring kids. There is some adult language, so it might not be appropriate for children.

See it if you want to be amazed. I don't know how he did half the tricks he did.

Don't see it if you do't like magic shows.

"‘Verso’...with only a single performer, stretches things to nearly two hours, a bit excessive for this kind of parlor game show...You may have seen these or similar tricks before, but if you’re a sucker for a clever magician’s wiles and like the kind of intimate, lightly comic, informative, one-on-one style of a Ricky Jay, Helder Guimarães will serve you well. And when he does his final trick, a multidimensional one that defies explanation, you’ll know why I’ve titled this review 'surreal.'"

"Helder Guimarães puts on an amazing display of playing-card wizardry in ‘Verso’…What makes for success in endeavors of this sort, is not just the magic; it’s the delivery, the entertainment, and the personality of the magician at hand. In these areas, Mr. Guimarães receives the highest grades…Guimarães handily carries the show with ingratiating personality and self-deprecating charm...'Verso' offers a grand evening of theatrical magic."

"Though he insists on his fascination with chance—'I collect mistakes,' he tells us early on—my sense of 'Verso' as a whole is of a show impeccably arranged in order to create the illusion of spectacular coincidence."

"This investigation into the stories we tell ourselves and how we can change them makes 'Verso' more like a strangely lovely work of theater than an ordinary magic show. It focuses not simply on amazing and entertaining us, but on opening our minds to ideas we might find hard to believe. He seals the deal with a final, startling trick — that makes us believe that perhaps he's right, and the impossible is possible after all."

"Guimarães rises to the occasion and shows us something new in his repertoire. At the same time, if some of the tricks weren’t duplicated from that early 2014 show, some of them did feel familiar...'Verso' is at its best when it’s all fun and games. Guimarães waxes philosophically about biases and alternative realities we buy into at times, albeit subconsciously. But the spoken word in this show is at its best when Guimarães is instead interacting with the audience."
