A journey through photos and memories reveals love and resilience across eras of prejudice.
A mysterious package filled with photographs and personal documents becomes the gateway to intertwined stories spanning different eras and continents. Guided by a narrator and brought vividly to life by a cast of actors, the play revisits the lives of two young women confronting oppression in the 20th century. In 1930s Alabama, Maxene and Sarah struggle against the harsh realities of racial discrimination under Jim Crow laws. Meanwhile, in an Eastern European shtetl, Anya and Elina endure the growing threats of antisemitism and fascism during the turbulent 1930s and 1940s. When Maxene and Anya finally meet in 1951, their shared experiences of loss, survival, and resilience open the door to healing, friendship, and renewed hope after childhoods shaped by injustice.
