Two janitors confront repetitive labor, existential dread, and the fear of change in an absurdist tragicomedy.
Two janitors, Jerryll and Harr’, return each day to clean the same persistently filthy room in a building that provides no water, leaving them with one mop and no brooms. While one has accepted his repetitive existence as a form of peace, the other remains drawn to the possibility of a different life. Through physical comedy, eccentric clowning, and moments of tenderness, their routine becomes a tragicomedy about the desire for radical change and the fear that accompanies it. The production incorporates multiple endings, with its form shifting from performance to performance.
Written by and starring Matte Kranz (*Artificial*, *The Gates*, *Meme Me*), the play is directed by Egor Trukhin, whose work includes *Six Characters*, a wordless tragicomedy presented at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club. Kranz performs as Jerryll opposite Mike Donovan as Harr’ (*The Banana Children*, *All Hail Santa Claus*, *Miles Away*).
