Set during a high-stakes live telethon for âSinging and Hearing Autistic Greatnessâ (SHAG or SAHAG), this farcical comedy follows three Autistic performersâLisa, Sean, and Jasonâas they prepare to present sanitized acts for a mainstream TV audience. Under pressure from condescending producers and surrounded by patronizing media figures and celebrities, each performer is expected to deliver a carefully curated routine: ballet, clean comedy, and ventriloquism. But as the telethon unfolds, the performers push back against the infantilizing expectations and take control of the broadcast to showcase their truer, more complex selves.
Written by award-winning Autistic playwright Dave Osmundsen, this production features a fully neurodivergent cast and creative team under the banner of EPIC Players. With a sharp blend of satire and physical comedy, the work critiques how media industries sanitize neurodivergent expressionâwhile also inviting the audience to question who gets to define what is âappropriate.â
