Solo show by Jeff Simmermon explores fatherhood, ALS, and IVF with sharp humor and honesty.
Jeff Simmermon’s solo show follows the overlapping arcs of impending fatherhood and a parent's decline. Just as he and his wife begin navigating the emotional and medical complexities of IVF, Jeff’s father is diagnosed with ALS. With the world in lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeff is forced into the dual role of soon-to-be dad and long-distance caregiver. The story moves between hospital waiting rooms, fertility clinics, and quiet moments in a childhood home, capturing the absurdity and gravity of being pulled in two directions by life and death.
The production is both written and performed by Jeff Simmermon, a storyteller and comedian whose credits include This American Life, The Moth, and RISK!. His previous work has been released on two albums that combine standup and personal narrative, and he’s known for blending humor with raw emotional depth. "CareGiver" continues that tradition, bringing deeply personal material to the stage with clarity and precision.
