A solo performer reworks religious shame through stand-up, clown, bouffon, and character work.
Kelly McCaughan revisits the religious experiences that shaped her understanding of shame, guilt, sexuality, and faith. Presented as a fractured church service, the solo performance reshapes personal experiences through stand-up, clown, bouffon, and character work, with McCaughan drawing the audience into the rituals of the service.
Kelly McCaughan is the show's writer and performer, using physical comedy and character work throughout the production. *Catholic Guilt* won the International Fringe Encore Series in 2024 and was nominated for the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards for Best Show in 2024 and Best Newcomer in 2023.
The 60-minute production is presented at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street in New York, as part of the 2026 New York Comedy Festival. The production is recommended for audiences 18 and older and follows sold-out engagements at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and an extended Off-Broadway run.
