Plays developed focus on what unites us, links us together as well as what divides us.

REQUIREMENTS: Playwrights must be NYC based. Part of an underrepresented community in the arts - Female identifying, person of color, LGBTQI, or trans artists are encouraged to submit. Must be full length plays - 70 pages or more. Playwright must have all necessary rights. Applications will be accepted beginning Oct 1st, 2019 - Dec 20, 2019. The Lab is Free to submit and participate. Playwrights submit: resume/bio, history of where the play has been previously developed and fill out the online questionnaire at chaintheatre.org. Playwrights meet twice a week starting Jan. 7th 2020. Development Meetings - one on one intensives with the Chain Leadership team where they to discuss: structure, character development and challenges within the plays. These meetings are followed by a rehearsal with actors to hear the play out loud. This is a highly collaborative process with personal focus on the playwright. Each play is given two staged readings at the Chain Theatre, Feb.2020. Tickets to the staged reading are FREE to all patrons. All plays developed are candidates for full production for the Chain 2021 Season.
