See it if you want to see a staged version of Chess. There's different versions & while I liked this one, I didn't quite know who's story it was

Don't see it if you need a flawless production. A bit hard to hear these performances. Would still see if if you are curious what is the story of Chess.

See it if you want to experience this concept album in an intimate staging

Don't see it if you need big broadway productions to appreciate a book/music/lyrics

See it if You enjoy dated musicals. Great score, great singing. You want to see Chess performed.

Don't see it if The storyline is problematic, and this show specifically would benefit from more elaborate staging.

Also I think they fixed the sound issues mentioned in previous reviews. I had no problem making out the lyrics over the background music, and I sat in the middle of the theater.... Read more Read less

See it if you want to enjoy a musical with some historical background.

Don't see it if you don't like a show that lasts more than 2.5h

See it if IF you love great lyrics and music, one of my all time favorite musicals.

Don't see it if Not a fan of musicals, or period pieces that deal with pop culture and politics.

See it if You want to see good actors perform a mediocre show with a few great songs

Don't see it if You want great sound (could barely hear the lead singer), you mind shows that run too long

See it if You like impressive ensemble musicals, political/Cold War theater, love triangles, or just want a good night out.

Don't see it if You are looking for a tightly run production, or aren’t into the topics. The sound EQ made it hard to hear the actors at times.

See it if Great how the story line parallels the chess game. Also happy to support small local theaters.

See it if You enjoy shows with creative design, romantic entanglements and a wonderful score!

Don't see it if You are not a fan of a love story with impossible odds set during Cold War era with a challenging score to be sung.

See it if you can follow arguments

See it if you're already a fan of the musical, or if you want to see a musical with a gorgeous, inspired score sung by some good voices.

Don't see it if you're looking for a show with a really strong book and if you care a lot about innovative staging and lighting.

See it if you are a fan of the musical, appreciate a strong effort by a hard-working community theater cast

Don't see it if you are a fan of the musical, have memorized every note of the Broadway album, want a glitzy show with high production value

Also I REALLY wanted to love this production. But from the first scene to the last, the solid cast was sabotaged by faulty music direction and sound design. The opening scene features the sound of machine gun fire piped into the theater from a pre-recorded soundtrack. The gunfire was so loud that you couldn’t hear a single word spoken on stage. This volume issue continued with the “orchestra” (keyboard, guitar and drums) – which is so loud that you can’t discern lyrics in the majority of the numbers that don’t feature the collective vocal power of the entire ensemble. The odd 3-piece combo is woefully inadequate to recreate the magic and majesty of the lush and exotic score. I understand the challenges presented to a community theater that can’t have a 20-piece orchestra, but it still left this diehard fan underwhelmed and unsatisfied. The cast: Florence is a great talent. Kudos to fine performances by Anatoly and and Molokov. Many of the high notes for Freddie are simply out of his range.... Read more Read less

Don't see it if You want to hear memorable songs.

See it if You appreciate local theater with a talented cast. Excellent singing and acting.. enjoyable 80’s rock music. Love the plot twists.

Don't see it if You prefer shorter shows. This runs a bit over 2.5 hours

See it if Beautiful singing , excellent acting ...enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. Spot on costumes for the 80’s

Don't see it if It’s a bit long but there is a lot going on during the play.

See it if Enjoyed the acting and singing. Favorite part was One Night in Bangkok..very entertaining. Also liked that there were multiple stories going

Don't see it if If you don't like long shows that have to do with the cold war.

Also Starts off very intense, ...moving scene with little girl and father, Fast forward to the 80's..cold war tensions, love triangles etc...worth the trip to Brooklyn... Read more Read less
