About the Show

Part of Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival: This one-woman show chronicles a clown’s journey through life and dance.

'Clown! Do Some Ballet!' is an interdisciplinary solo performance piece created, choreographed, and performed by Elizabeth Gannon that fuses concepts of dance, ballet, theater, and clown performance. It focuses on Clown, a surprisingly empathetic character who is challenged by the pitfalls of everyday life. Clown experiences many emotions, ranging from joy to defeat, happiness to sorrow, and discovers a new way of expression through her dance.

"Brave to the point of madness...Gannon proceeds to alternate doing dance numbers with some acrobatics and magic tricks. She goes out of her way to look amateurish and dumpy...What is impressive about her show is that she does about 25 minutes of this shtick without ever stopping. Yes, she is intentionally performing badly, but her agility is something to marvel at. The piece went by in a flash. And you can’t ask more than that from an inept clown act."
