A new queer theatre piece reclaiming the true story behind Dog Day Afternoon through trans icon Elizabeth Eden.
Doll Day Afternoon centers on Elizabeth Eden, the transgender woman whose surgery was the stated motivation behind the 1975 bank robbery depicted in the film Dog Day Afternoon. Where the film cast Al Pacino as her husband and largely sidelined Eden’s own perspective, this production draws directly on her memoir, in which she sought to reclaim her story from those who exploited it and offer a firsthand account of life as a trans woman in Stonewall-era New York City.
Conceived and directed by Dmitri Barcomi, the production is presented by Vice Squad, an award-winning international artist collective whose work draws on queer history and unconventional source material. The show carries content advisories for transphobia, drug use, depictions of suicide, and domestic violence.
