About the Show
Part of Theater for the New City's 2017 Dream Up Festival: This verse drama was inspired by one of the most notorious criminal cases in Iceland's history.
In 1837, a 12-year-old girl was sexually abused by a hired hand on her family's farm. Since her mother was romantically involved with the perpetrator, she testified against her daughter in a desperate attempt to cover up her affair. At the time, adultery was a capital offense. What punishment did the judge mete out? Based on transcripts of the actual testimony, 'Guilty' explores the love triangle, sexual obsession, and the eternal questions of innocence and guilt.
