Part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, this new musical tells the story of a young composer growing up and discovering love, loss, and the power of music.
Eric is writing a musical about his life. But instead of actors, he's using voices...the voices in his head. Frustrated with his own writing and his relationship with his mother, Eric brings his "head voices" to life, and together they begin to musicalize his story.
"Mostly quite pleasant and often impressive. Mr. Andersen writes sophisticated music and his score here is quite pleasing. His lyrics are serviceable. The cast members are committed and their collective craft is a joy. Johnson’s attentive direction outstrips his more pedantic choreography and keeps the performance moving swiftly."
"The book is in need of incredible cleaning up. What 'HeadVoice' does do is showcase Andersen's flourishing musical talent. The score Andersen has scribed is beautiful...With the book needing much repair, the best option may be to hook up with a book writer to create a brand new original musical. Something less personal."
