Harlem Repertory Theatre revives Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Award-winning musical in an intimate and expressionistic new production. More…
In the neighborhood of Washington Heights, Usnavi is a bodega owner who looks after the aging Cuban lady next door, and pines for the gorgeous girl working in the neighboring beauty salon. He dreams of winning the lottery and escaping to the shores of his native Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Nina, his childhood friend, has returned to the neighborhood from her first year at college with surprising news for her parents, who have spent their life savings on building a better life for their daughter. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of the close-knit neighborhood get a dose of what it means to be home.
See it if very good singing , dancing. A very upbeat production. HRT put on a good show, as good as when I saw on Broadway.
Don't see it if you don't like or understand hip hop. Acting was not as consistent of other productions put on at HRT.
See it if You would enjoy ethnic immigrant NYC characters and themes, and a mix of salsa and hip-hop.
Don't see it if The venue is a high school gym with no A/C. The sound system had feedback problems. I understood about half of the lyrics.
See it if you're a fan of L-MM's pre-Hamilton work or if you have never seen this show. This is a cleverly-staged, energetically performed production.
Don't see it if you're not willing to support talented performers in an uptown venue; or if you just don't like this musical. (I don't but I still enjoyed.)
See it if I saw this show when it was off broadway and then on broadway. The characters are a bit cliché but show is enjoyable. Good set.
Don't see it if Not a sophisticated show and characters are not probed too deeply.
See it if you don’t mind sitting through uneven performances in order to hear the songs that put Lin-Manuel Miranda on the map.
Don't see it if you have to pay more than $20. You saw it on Broadway. You’d be unhappy with a show that’s more of a staged concert than a revival
See it if you want to pretend you're seeing the strong voices, professional staging & lighting & good choreography that do this amazing show justice.
Don't see it if bad singing, dim lighting w/ some numbers performed almost in the dark, chaotic dancing and blocking and a hot theater bother you.
See it if You are tone deaf and want to see the brain from which Hamilton sprung. Many of the same techniques are employed here with a familiar story.
Don't see it if you care about music, dance, acting, or your ears.
See it if you enjoy wonderful musicals, with very talented young performers who give it their all.
Don't see it if you have a problem with loud music. There was something wrong with the sound system making the sound hard on the ears.
Also Just see it.
See it if You love Lin-Manuel Miranda's first masterpiece enough to forgive some rough edges. You love New York. You love Latin music.
Don't see it if You need Broadway-level staging. You don't like the sound of microphone feedback.
See it if You didn't catch the original. Upbeat if uneven cast, this stripped down version reveals how solid, ambitious & far-reaching the material is
Don't see it if Expensive production values are important.
See it if you are already a fan of In the Heights or want to be exposed to the show. Some great performances in a minimalist production.
Don't see it if You weren't a fan of the original.
See it if Great acting. Loved the story line. The actors and the theatre are really involved with the audience having a good time. Also:cheap Hamilton
Don't see it if You don’t like hip hop. You do not like plays that are over two hours. Otherwise, see it.
See it if you need your mood uplifted. I was truly "in the heights" after seeing this. It's the antidote to our collective stress
Don't see it if if you don't like musicals. This is a musical with great singing, dancing, and acting and it's by Lin-Manuel Miranda!
See it if like latin-inspired music, like Lin-Manuel Miranda's shows, never saw it before
Don't see it if want a really professional production, don't like latin or hip-hop music
See it if you want an original concept. less so today than when it opened but still entertaining
Don't see it if you don't like a modern musical or hip hop music.
See it if Innovative -clever writing, lyrics , singing and staging..See if you can't see Hamilton & want to see LMM's early work.
Don't see it if No reason not to see unless you can't keep up with quick paced lyrics & staging. Only like "Old Broadway" musicals.
See it if Miranda’s moving autobiographical score/lyrics are brought fully alive by the ensemble — and I’m living every moment with them! What a bless!
Don't see it if Would have given them 100 if the sound system weren’t that shitty.. it hurt the artists’ vocal chords! Duets’ harmony is sometimes off-pitch
