About the Show

Part of Theater for the New City's 2017 Dream Up Festival: In this world premiere drama, two women facing eviction decide to embark on a backroads tour of Canada, with Jack Kerouac as spirit guide.

'Jeanie and May' upends the American literary tradition of the road trip by recasting the traditionally young male narrative with two older female leads: Jeanie, a self-deprecating artist in her fifties battling doubt and depression, and her Aunt May, a feisty woman in her seventies with a youthful demeanor but a fear of the outside world.

Absorbing, Ambitious, Great Acting, Great Music, Indulgent

See it if like works in progress, great acting, minimal sets and you remember the Chorus Line line "to commit suicide in Buffalo is redundant".

Don't see it if you have read On The Road or taken a Backroads bicycle trip or have seen Thelma and Louise or know Bette Davis's great lines.
