About the Show

Both spoof and tribute, Recent Cutbacks' highly theatrical parody of 'Home Alone' is intensely physical, imaginative, and silly, using only rudimentary props and costumes to recreate iconic moments from the film.

Hilarious, Ambitious, Clever, Entertaining, Must see

See it if you'd love to revisit a popular childhood memory in a fresh, creative, side-splitting show. The concept, staging, performances, etc. are A+!

Don't see it if you're worried about actually busting a gut. I haven't laughed this much at a show (or heard an audience laugh this much) in YEARS.

Don't see it if you're a Scrooge.

The New York Times

For a previous production

"'Home Alone' offers a target ripe for mockery, and as directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker, the company does a pretty thorough job in one breathless hour...Providing bite-size musical chestnuts of the season is a talented choir...The affection here for 'Home Alone' is palpable—it helps to know the original—and largely devoid of malice. The show doesn’t really have to go there; the movie’s script (by John Hughes) approaches self-parody."

"Director Kristin McCarthy Parker has a lot to juggle, so it's impressive how seamlessly scenes transition without missing a beat. You don't need to have seen 'Home Alone' to enjoy the skill involved in 'Kevin!!!!!', but because it's so fast paced, it might be hard to follow if you have no prior knowledge...A highlight of the show is hearing the John Williams score and other songs from the movie performed by a talented four-person choir dressed in festive holiday sweaters."

Stage Buddy

"Their tightly arranged choreography allows them to go quickly from scene-to-scene, and their use of cameras to project those scenes is impressive...Choir members do a great job of making it feel as though you are actually watching a condensed version of the movie. Even if you go for the singing alone, it will be well worth the price of a ticket...Mostly it’s laugh-out-loud funny all the way through...Fans of 'Home Alone' are going to get a kick out of 'KEVIN!!!!!'"

Theater In The Now

"Comedy troupe Recent Cutbacks takes the flick, condenses it into sixty minutes, and reminds the audience just why we love the movie. The parody is nostalgia to the max with multimedia devices, puppetry, and Foley work that bring laughs and smiles from start to finish. 'Kevin!!!!!' is virtually a jam-packed highlight reel of 'Home Alone' through non-stop comedy. There's no shortage of creativity on the stage...Recent Cutbacks has upped the parody game once again with 'Kevin!!!!!'

"An absolutely charming twist on the classic film ‘Home Alone’…Director Kristin McCarthy Parker and her ensemble employ a number of clever techniques to convey the story including crafty camera work, miniature and life-size sock puppets and small house models…This is loving parody at its finest, performed by a group of talented comedians who clearly have remarkable chemistry with the material and one another."

Fuck Yeah Great Plays
December 18th, 2016
For a previous production

"Director Kristen McCarthy Parker deserves all the lovely cheese pizza for balancing live actors, puppets, video feed and more while distilling the movie down to the essentials for the hourlong show, though some mid-scene puppet changes feel as though Parker doesn’t trust the audience to follow along...Parker and the Recent Cutbacks crew have creativity to spare, and when it comes together, it makes 'KEVIN!!!!!' as comforting as an ugly sweater or a cup of hot chocolate."

"A hilarious, innovative parody of 'Home Alone'...The entire cast, and their puppets, do an expert job of recreating most of the 1990 Christmas hit, with some cuts for time, all while injecting just the right amount of commentary...Every transition works like clockwork, and this team is so knowledgeable about their craft that they improvise in ways that further heighten the show’s humor...Director Kristin McCarthy Parker has crafted a real winner."

Pop City Life

For a previous production

"Recent Cutbacks members consistently strike gold, delivering production after production full of heart, comedy, and sweat, and 'KEVIN!!!!!' has proved that they’re still at the top of their game...The screen projections and puppetry were cool, impressive, and well-crafted, but I must say that I did find myself enjoying the live-action parts of 'KEVIN!!!!!' a bit more. This cast is so talented at what they do, and it really is an enjoyable experience to watch them."
