With dance, clown, and physical theatre, Candice Roberts uses her alter ego "Larry" to explore her experiences growing up as a female in rural B.C. in the 1980s. Part of Soho Playhouse's Fringe Encore Series. More…
From the show:
LARRY wants to prove that he can be “woke” enough for the empowered woman of his desires, but in a moment of accidental transcendence, uncovers a startling surprise in his psyche. A complex, bold and very funny portrait of a hoser's foray into feminism.
See it if You like chaotic, nonsensical, over the top yet somehow transcendent comedy this is for you. Larry is a sort of clown for the #metoo era.
Don't see it if You don’t like i your face comedy. Some of this is harsh, edgy and maybe borderline offensive...but it’s not. It’s actually pretty smart.
See it if You want an unique show that uses comedy to skewer traditional ideas about gender. You enjoy micro-budget, solo shows. You're OK w/nudity.
Don't see it if You don't like sketch character shows, you're uncomfortable w/nudity & strong language. You dislike parody. You want a big production.
See it if In dream, clownish Bud-guzzling, head-banging, paper-bearded handyman, Larry, transforms from bufoonish dude to full-on lady. "I'm bloated."
Don't see it if A naked lady who transforms from a thirsty dude in a cellar bar should have something to say about it: "I feel the heartbreak of the world."
See it if you enjoy short, one-act, one woman comedy focused on the stereotype of low education, unsophisticated, anti-PC blue collar straight men
Don't see it if you are upset by full female nudity, vulgarity, LGBTQ references, and stereotyping of lower working class white men
See it if You're up for a bare-bones, outrageously funny send-up and exploration of gender, gender roles, masculinity, stereotypes and affirmation.
Don't see it if You're misogynistic, can't deal with parody, satire, nonerotic full female nudity or the fact that all human beings begin as female.
See it if U enjoy a different 1-woman clown-around show, & a transformation from a macho guy into a sexy woman (really!). Don't mind sophomoric humor
Don't see it if you're offended by nudity and some raunchy humor
See it if You want to support someone who made a mistake bringing this show to NYC.
Don't see it if If it bothers you when someone does not respect you or the time you have given them. It is embarrassingly poor
See it if Interesting take on masculinity - she shows us an over-the-top worst case. Some clever language here, refreshingly rural? low-class?
Don't see it if You're not interested in gender issues.
See it if you like gut laughing, being surprised and emotionally moved ...A woman playing a dude-bro discovering his inner feminine. Pro-clown..
Don't see it if you are offended by coarse language and rock and roll...
See it if You are curious about comedy speaking to gender, feminism. Cool use diy for transcendent/effective staging
Don't see it if You can’t handle cutting edge theatre/non sexualized nudity/ swearing.
Also Had me thinking/talking to my friends about the performance
See it if you enjoy outside of the box "theatre". Hilarious take on a woman's experience. Surprising, energetic and courageous work.
Don't see it if you aren't open to satire, if you are offended by course language.
