Feminist pov, Different, Fine group of musicians, Musically inclined, Experimental

See it if something completely different is your desire, experimenting with interp/music/dance/stoytelling is up your alley, low rent is you

Don't see it if male centric Greek mythology is your baseline, cannot allow for female perspectives, need polish & production values

Very weak book, Exceptional choreography, Quality score and lyrics, Great staging, Great singing

See it if you love high quality bluegrass and choreography better than most on Broadway

Don't see it if you want a high quality book. Like most new musicals, the book here is not ready for the stage Read more

Confusing, Raunchy, Quirky, Edgy, Ambitious

See it if blue grass band in a time warp shares stories of Greek Mythology x wild west; violent, raunchy & strange ..very Greenwich village?!

Don't see it if only in Greenwich Village? if you won't like strange & raunchy bondage scenes or greek myths meets the wild west; bad southern accents

Intense, Disappointing, Great singing, Confusing, Ambitious

See it if wonderful bluegrass music, brave attempt to retell Greek myths from feminist POV with astoundingly talented cast but doesn't congeal.

Don't see it if overly ambitious despite all the excellent elements and abundant talent and creativity - there were too many confusing/cringe-worthy moments

Quirky, Great singing, Disappointing, Confusing, Ambitious

See it if u enjoy bluegrass music & will like seeing it performed by a very talented young cast who sing, play instruments, and dance extremely well.

Don't see it if you can't overlook a trite, sophomoric plot. There are roughly a half dozen Greek myths that are retold with an allegedly "feminist" twist Read more

Confusing, Great singing, Funny, Entertaining

See it if You love myths, have an understanding of the subjects going into it, like bluegrass music and a simple stage

Don't see it if You don't have much background on the subjects, are looking for something with a Plot Read more

Underwhelming, Feminist, Entertaining, Overly long, Musical

See it if you like reworkings and feminist interpretations of classical myths. If you appreciate a talented cast singing and playing their own music.

Don't see it if you'd like a more traditional narrative, or something without music. The writing could be tighter, or an intermission needs to be added.

" Monstress' speaks as much to our better parts as to our monsters, honoring our capacity to find hope amidst struggle and carry forward the wisdom of our past even as we reckon with its pain."

"It’s a rich evening on many levels. What is missing is a consistent through-line we can hang on to that takes us from beginning to end. It’s there, but not fully realized, but don’t let that keep you away. Well worth experiencing."

"This smart, folksy pastiche of reimagined myths pays tribute to perceived monstresses: women whose self-certainty and indomitability make them, if not inspiring, at least a force to be reckoned with."

"The figure of the monster represents a disrupter of categories; and the monstresses here perform that function in areas from history...'Monstress' proposes that we could all learn something from them."
