Inspired by the true story of playwright and director Elizabeth Ostler’s sister, Lisa, SisterPlay follows a family grappling with the loss of a loved one who died while in custody at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. The play explores the complicated relationship between sisters alongside the effects of addiction, incarceration, and grief.

Through family memories and the realities of life in custody, the story examines how systems respond to people experiencing addiction and the consequences of inadequate medical care. Rather than offering simple explanations, the play considers how families carry loss and continue to love someone whose circumstances they could not change.

Written and directed by Elizabeth Ostler, the world-premiere play draws on personal history to examine sisterhood, institutional responsibility, and the difficulty of seeing a person beyond the circumstances surrounding their death.
