An adaptation of Koda Rohan's novel "Five-Storied Pagoda" told through a series of shadow puppets.
This whimsical, fantastical production is curated by Japanese-born puppet artist Watoku Ueno. In The Tall Keyaki Tree, a carpenter sets out to accomplish a seemingly unsurmountable task: building a five-story pagoda, a tiered tower common in East Asian architecture, using the wood from the Keyaki (Zelkova) tree. Having grown up with the tree, the carpenter’s spiritual bond with it propels him to create a thing of true beauty. Featuring live music and inspired by Koda Rohan's novel "Five-Storied Pagoda," this production is great for families.
