About the show

Part of Clubbed Thumb's Summerworks 2018 series, this new comedy centers around a troop of dedicated shoe store workers. More…

Blessed with the can-do American spirit, the workers embark on a madcap odyssey of personal (employer-mandated) expansion. But when "work is your life" and systems breakdown, all that remains is you, some nachos, and the truth.

The New York Times

“A classic shaggy dog story. Or rather, shaggy bear...In its opening scenes, ‘Tin Cat Shoes’ may put you in mind of a stretched-out sketch...But Ms. Harnetiaux is following her own System, which involves dismantling our pathetic trust in all systems...With a lesser cast and design team the ingredients of ‘Tin Cat Shoes’ might not seem quite as fresh or tasty. But it’s hard to resist the eccentric top spin that these performers so happily put on their lines.” Full Review

Ambitious, Dizzying, Contemporary, Brilliantly designed, Loony

See it if you want to see a challenging play that is fully plugged into the zeitgeist, performed by a stellar downtown cast & beautifully designed.

Don't see it if you have no tolerance for experiment that tests the limit of how far afield an original premise can extend before the whole thing snaps.

Funny, Quirky, Great staging, Unfinished, Imaginative

See it if you like a wild ride. There's lots to enjoy here (characters, humor, acting, staging), but the great set-up is dropped and TCS falls apart.

Don't see it if you want a full story arc. 1st 2 parts are masterful, the last disappointing. Still, laughs thru-out. W cutting/shaping, TCS could be great.

Clever, Quirky, Confusing, Entertaining, Great staging

See it if ... You prefer poetry over reason, character over plot, whimsy over solid ground. ... Good direction and design are important to you.

Don't see it if If you hate theatre. This might make you hate it more.

Funny, Clever, Quirky, Entertaining

See it if You are a fan of the Clubbed Thumb tradition of wild and crazy, as you should be. Downtown stars, lots of whimsey, this has promise.

Don't see it if The widening gyre, the center cannot hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the stage. If that bothers you.

Ambitious, Great acting, Confusing, Disappointing, Great staging

See it if A great cast of downtown icons (including David Greenspan) work very, very hard to pull drama off Aided by great set & staging but not to be

Don't see it if Harnetiaux's talent is definitely on display but only sporadically It's dense w/o being illuminating; has a feel of 'whimsy on steroids'

Dizzying, Thought-provoking, Quirky, Hilarious
