About the show

Obvious Volcano presents a new staging of Shakespeare's tragedy set in a post-apocalyptic, post-gender world. More…

From the show:

A post-apocalyptic, post-gender society at the end of empire.

A “Mad Max” world in which titles and prophecy mean nothing. And everything.

Although the play uses the pronouns as they are written in the original text, no one has been cast in a character that uses the same pronouns that the actor uses in daily life. The characters will be portrayed by the actors as their preferred gender identity in their current physical body.

Great acting, Refreshing, Intense, Clever, Entertaining

See it if you'd enjoy seeing the Bard's play in an exciting new setting with gender pronoun changes on a small stage that uses the entire auditorium.

Don't see it if you want the traditional play or if you have difficulty with a wordy play that lasts nearly two hours without an intermission.

Resonant, Relevant, Intelligent, Great acting, Entertaining

See it if you like Macbeth and/or genderswapped productions

Don't see it if you don't like Shakespeare; other than swapping the roles it's a pretty traditional Macbeth production

Hilarious, Intelligent, Intense, Absorbing, Clever

See it if You’d like to see a brilliant and refreshing new take on the tragedy of MacBeth.

Don't see it if You hate to have a good time.

Resonant, Relevant, Must see, Great acting, Entertaining

See it if Twisting a classic is not always interesting but this twist will titillate. Trust.

Don't see it if If your family troubles still haunt you, you might find this one a bit too close to home.

"'Unsex Me Here' has gone for a fully gender-bent Macbeth, which could work sharply were it not for a double layer of swap…If you need to give your concept a backstory, there's probably something awry…but Cino has coaxed some fresh, buoyant line readings from her cast."
