Gallery Players presents Christopher Durang's 2013 Tony Award-winning comedy. More…
From the show:
This winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play is the story of middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia, who share a home in Bucks County, PA where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.
See it if you love Chekhov; you'll enjoy clever send-up of his plots/themes/chars/style. Strg acting/staging. Funny. Gd set/costumes. Cute theater.
Don't see it if you want relevant work. In 8 yrs, VSMS has aged badly. Vanya's "gr 1960-70s" rant=white male privilege. Ea generatn is nostalgic. Drags/sags
See it if Gallery's production of Durang's witty, literate often poignant homage is top-notch Zany ensemble (Evans & Barela standout) shine throughout
Don't see it if Less frenetic 2nd act as Durang's "mock" Chehkovian monologues take centerstage & Rowan dials down comedic antics for a touching eloquence
See it if Great acting esp.Jon Krupp and Dawn Evans. Gallery always a welcoming staff. Best set ever at Gallery..Dramas now drawing as well as musical
Don't see it if you live in California. ................. NO REASON TO MISS THIS but some might not be happy with a two plus hour show
See it if you would like a humorous play that is based on Chekhov - here with a good, hard-working cast with good costumes and lighting on one set.
Don't see it if you have any aversion to an off-the-walls, satirical comedy for two hours - I tired of it a bit.
See it if You love Chekhov or love silly character driven satire. Really clever & fun!
Don't see it if Uneven performances are disconcerting. This over the top farce inspires some of the performers considerably more than others.
See it if need a taste of Durang, can laugh at our Chekovian ridiculousness, find life in the details of waiting, like Gallery Players
Don't see it if dislike Durang or Chekov, will only see a "professional" production, need 2 pay a lot 4 ticket 2 prove worth 2 yourself, wont go 2 Brooklyn
See it if You love a good laugh. And a bad laugh. You love family dramas. You are also named after Chekov characters.
Don't see it if Laughing hurts your mouth too much.
See it if you are a fan of Chekhov or Chekhov references. It may also help to understand if you're familiar with old TV shows from 50s-70s.
Don't see it if you dislike uneven performances or dated, whiny characters.
See it if You like Chekhov & humor & fine acting & laughing at yourself & the world. What complete fun.
Don't see it if You never grew a funny bone or dislike comedy (for whatever reason). Otherwise, see this!
See it if Play about love, devotion, desire, desperation and hope in the end of tunnel. Perfect cast. Funny and sad situations help relatives to start
Don't see it if appreciate each other more. Lovely Spike full of energy, little narcissistic but still lovable. Play needs a little cut.
See it if you like mash ups and plays that build on Chekov. enjoy comic takes on misery and dread. Enjoy a play that comes together well.
Don't see it if Mnd some slow spots and things being a bit over the top. Might be confusing for non Chekov fans.
See it if Zany and off the wall story based on a Chekhov play set in modern times. Very funny and entertaining as well. The actors were all very good
Don't see it if You prefer a more serious subject matter. If you enjoyed life sucks, and stupid f'ing bird this is just for you
See it if into musings about Chekhov's work and boomer privilege, wonderfully executed
Don't see it if sensitive to somewhat dated elements, though at no point did I want to be anywhere but watching this fun play.
See it if You relate to cranky boomers, and Chekhov references. The 2013 BWay production hid some of the scripts weaknesses which are exposed here.
Don't see it if You have no patience for Boomer angst. Some of the stereotypes are squirm worthy. Acting generally pretty good.
See it if U get broad comedy w/a rib poke to Chekhov & Greek myth. U get the jokes w/out know'g either. Then it's young vs middle age & regret.
Don't see it if U can't do stairs. U don't find humor in siblings with age old axes to grind & piles of missed chances. They can be whiny. It won the Tony.
See it if you want to see a well-staged, well-acted, entertaining play.
Don't see it if you have an internet related attention span and like plays that get to the point within five minutes of the curtain going up.
See it if you enjoy smart comedy, Chekhov, laughing at life, and/or strong performances. Strong, entertaining play, well acted (and I saw it on Bway).
Don't see it if the only reason not to see it is if this type of comedy isn't your speed. Otherwise take advantage of the opportunity!
See it if You like Durang, theater references, and the absurd, and you have patience
Don't see it if You want a play that gets to its point promptly
See it if you like Christopher Durang. Decent if uneven production of a great script. The direction has gone a bit awry, could have been better.
Don't see it if you don't care for sharp, intelligent writing, have no knowledge of Chekov plays or prefer not to see cute boys in their underpants. haha
