The AlphaNYC Theater Company presents a celebration of Walt Whitman's work with an evening of his poems, performed by two different casts.
Nineteenth century New York City and the Civil War are brought back to life through the beautiful words of Whitman. What is it to be human, to feel, to cry, to love? We walk with Whitman through the streets of his beloved Brooklyn, and meet the people he met. We follow Whitman to Washington, D.C. during the Civil War, where he worked as a nurse, healing and holding the hands of many soldiers as they transitioned from this world to the next. Works performed include 'O Captain! My Captain!,' 'Beat! Beat! Drums!,' and 'Once I Pass'd Through a Populous City.'
