A staged reading of the classic Chekhov play on Zoom, adapted by Neil LaBute with an all-star cast.
Broadway’s Best presents the world premiere of Neil LaBute’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s tragicomedy, Uncle Vanya, staged on Zoom and starring Alan Cumming, Constance Wu and directed by Tanya Taymor.
When the elderly professor Serebryakov and his young second wife Yelena return to their country estate, their arrival upsets the steady routines and bottled nature of those managing it. Vanya, Serebryakov's brother in law from his first marriage, manages the estate with Sonya, his niece (and daughter from Serebryakov's first marriage). Sonya falls in love with Astrov, the doctor who has come to treat the elderly Serebryakov. But of course, Astrov is in love with Yelena, as is Vanya. Tensions mount as the cruelty of unrequited love and the anguish of lives unfulfilled escalates.
