A new musical inspired by Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra, where students build instruments from scrap.
Inspired by the true story of Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra, this world premiere musical follows a community where a music teacher forms an orchestra despite having no traditional instruments. Using discarded materials—such as paint cans, oil drums, forks, and license plates—students create their own instruments and develop a shared musical language that carries beyond their neighborhood. The story is based on the documentary Landfill Harmonic and traces how resourcefulness and collaboration transform limitations into creative expression.
The score is co-written by Gloria Estefan and Emily Estefan, with a book by Karen Zacarías. The production is directed by Michael Greif, with musical supervision, orchestration, and arrangements by Alex Lacamoire, choreography by Patricia Delgado, and dramaturgy by Ken Cerniglia.
