A scandal threatens Sir Robert Chiltern’s perfect life in Oscar Wilde’s sharp Victorian satire.
Sir Robert Chiltern is a man at the pinnacle of Victorian society, admired for his taste, charm, and political reputation. His comfortable life, complete with social status and a devoted wife, begins to unravel with the arrival of Mrs. Cheveley. A woman with a sharp wit and a dangerous secret, she threatens to expose Chiltern’s past misdeeds, setting off a chain of events that put his marriage, friendships, and future at risk.
This new staging is directed by Nicholai La Barrie, Associate Director at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, who brings a bold contemporary lens to Wilde’s enduring comedy. The play continues the Lyric’s tradition of presenting classic works alongside innovative new productions.
