About the Show

A Tamil teen challenges gender norms at a traditional coming-of-age party in 2010 London.

Set in 2010, Period Parrrty follows Krish, a Tamil teenager preparing for a traditional period celebration that’s meant to mark the beginning of womanhood. As pressure mounts from family and culture, Krish, with support from their best friend Brenavee and chosen community, decides to rewrite the script and host a gender-free celebration that reflects their truth.

The play is written by Gayathiri Kamalakanthan, a Tamil writer and performer whose accolades include the Disabled Poets Prize, the Faber & Andlyn Publisher’s Prize, and the Royal Society of Literature: Literature Matters Award. Period Parrrty was nominated for the Tony Craze Award and marks Kamalakanthan’s debut stage play.

Produced by Kali Theatre in association with Soho Theatre, the production continues Kali’s long-standing commitment to platforming work by South Asian women and non-binary voices.
