Perspectives: Balanchine, Marston, Peck present a mixed bill of three contemporary ballets spanning nearly a century of choreographic expression.The programme closes with Justin Peck’s Everywhere We Go, a vibrant and kinetic piece set to a cinematic score by Sufjan Stevens.

The bill showcases celebrated choreographers whose work has shaped modern ballet. George Balanchine, a pioneer of 20th-century neoclassicism, created Serenade in 1935 as his first American ballet, incorporating real-life rehearsal incidents into the final piece. Cathy Marston, known for her narrative-driven ballets like The Cellist, brings her dramaturgical depth to a new work set against the political unease of 1930s Europe. Justin Peck, resident choreographer and artistic advisor at New York City Ballet, brings his dynamic movement style to The Royal Ballet for the first time with Everywhere We Go.

Each piece features distinct design teams: Serenade with costumes by Karinska and lighting by John B. Read; Marston’s ballet with set design by Chloe Lamford, costumes by Annemarie Woods, and lighting by Fabiana Piccioli; and Peck’s work with visuals by Karl Jensen, costumes by Janie Taylor, and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker. This curated evening places historic and contemporary voices in dialogue, highlighting the diversity of choreographic vision in ballet today.
