Still, it’s a bold and striking show, and if it’s not entirely successful, it’s because it shoots for something ambitious and falls a little short. It marks the Polka out as a braver theatre than it used to be: it’s great to have it back.

The first production for the newly (and beautifully) refurbished Polka Theatre in Wimbledon is a version of the Red Riding Hood fairytale told entirely through sign language, movement and visuals. It’s brilliant to see a family theatre place accessibility at the core of a show, not just as an add-on.
