Bright, Energetic, Great for children, Fluffy, Disappointing

See it if It's a great show for young kids, I loved seeing how happy it made them. Lots of imaginative design work, bright, clashing colours.

Don't see it if The music is all over the place in terms of quality, and the show feels rushed and cheap sadly.

The London Evening Standard

“The antics of this jaunty Aplysina Fistularis – yes, I looked it up – and his underwater mates don’t translate into a 150-minute musical...This stage musical isn’t cynical, just thin.”

Time Out London

“Kyle Jarrow’s relentlessly saccharine book is light on both suspense and laughs, and this production’s declamatory straight-to-audience acting style and cringey moments of innuendo don’t help on either count.”

Theatre Weekly (UK)

“Critics adored the Broadway production and now that SpongeBob the Musical has made it to this side of the ocean it’s clear to see why. It’s an ingenious take on a beloved TV series, with super catchy tunes and a cast riding an energetic wave.”

The Arts Desk

“Stretched to a yawning 140 minutes, the repetition and diversions required to keep the narrative afloat sap one’s patience, particularly as the inevitable ending has been drifting towards us from the moment the impending cataclysm was announced.”

The Independent (UK)

“A musical based on an animated series about an underwater talking sponge isn’t going to be for everyone...This is not just a simple show about a (not) simple sponge – it’s an uplifting, sweet tale about friendship and the power of community. Underestimate it at your peril.”
