Great dancing, Slow, Delightful

See it if you want to see a great but dance sequence heavy show set to a wonderful score by George and Ira Gershwin

Don't see it if you want a fast paced show with a modern aesthetic, this is dated (in the nicest possible way) and quite a slow burner.

Parisien, Great dancing, Nostalgic, Enchanting

See it if you want a traditional musical told in a traditional way - solid acting, singing and scenery

Don't see it if There is nothing new or provoking here, don't see it if that bothers you

Fluffy, Great dancing, Great staging, Dated, Ambitious

See it if You love the film. The film is very dated and they haven’t addressed that but still entertaining with amazing dancing if a bit too long.

Don't see it if You don’t like the film or old style musicals.

Indulgent, Confusing, Cliched

See it if You really love dance. I found that the story fell away in the middle and it felt a little flabby compared to modern productions.

Don't see it if You might get bored either thin story, unless you can get past that and get absorbed in the dancing.

Slow, Great staging, Enchanting

See it if You like a sublime classic Hollywood musical brought to life on stage.

Don't see it if If you're not a fan of pure dance this is not for you - there is a lot of it.

What the show does to perfection (besides airing music that’s steeped to its marrow with a jazz-age joie de vivre) is capture the hard-to-take-in beauty of Paris and reverie of youth.

An American in Paris is unlike any other musical on the London stage: sumptuously beautiful and heartfelt, it has a romantic pizzazz all of its own.

An American in Paris is a dance musical with grace, grit and Gershwin: a winning combination if ever there was one.

It’s got starlight, it’s got sweet dreams and, yes, it’s got rhythm too. You almost feel you couldn’t ask for anything more but this Gershwin musical also has that indefinable something called grace...

The result is a sophisticated-looking musical that radiates good taste and good intentions, but doesn’t really catch fire.

As grand escapism, An American in Paris – a Broadway adaptation of a Hollywood movie-musical – is superb, despite its attempts to introduce a little darkness to the 1951 original.
